What EFB can do for you
The European Federation of Biotechnology is the association of European scientific institutes, societies, companies, biotechnology associations and personal members active or interested in biotechnology and its safe and beneficial applications.
EFB's mission
- foster collaboration between European biotechnologists from industry and academia to promote biotechnology in a socially and ethically acceptable manner;
- promote the safe, sustainable and beneficial use of Nature's resources in the life sciences and technologies by supporting sound science and the application of engineering and technology;
- facilitate exchange of people and ideas, organise courses for Ph.D. students and young postgraduates and stimulate innovation with the common goal of advancing biotechnology in Europe.
EFB's means
- promoting cooperation on scientific grounds between national and cross-national member societies, personal members and scientists from academia and industry;
- offering national and cross-national societies, companies, associations and individuals interested in the promotion of biotechnology a platform for participating in and contributing to enhanced and coordinated activities in Europe and worldwide;
- maintaining good contacts with the European Commission's Research Directorate-General;
- producing Briefing Papers (e.g. on Patenting in Biotechnology and Biodiversity) and the series Made by Genetic Engineering.
What EFB can do for you
- participation in the meetings, publications and general work of our Sections and Task Groups;
- benefit from the expertise and activities on a great number of important topics covered by the Sections and Task Groups;
- improve the communication between science and the general public;
- improve the scientific education of young people;
- improve safety in biotechnology;
- expand networks within the biotechnology community, nationally and internationally;
- give access and involvement in networks throughout Europe and beyond of scientists, industrialists, government officials, educationalists and journalists;
- faciliate communication with a broad range of groups from the European Commission and politicians to the media and financial sectors;
- disseminate information on European Commission programmes and policy (eg the 6th Framework Programme) ;
- give access to the EFB database when organising conferences and symposia;
- benefit from EFB's new activities to access and develop opportunities for cooperation and strategic relations in the field of biotechnology between the European Union and major countries and regions such as China, South East Asia and South America
